Punjab National Bank Recurring Deposits Explained

Punjab National Bank runs its recurring deposits under the Sugam and Dhan Vridhi family of names, with tenures from six months to ten years. Following the amalgamation of Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India into PNB on 1 April 2020, it operates the second-largest branch network among Indian public sector banks — and a substantial share of these accounts is still opened at the counter, though PNB ONE supports the full process.

PNB RD Schemes You Can Open

PNB brands its recurring products rather than offering one generic account, and the names matter when you ask at a branch:

  • PNB Recurring Deposit SchemeThe standard fixed-instalment account, with tenures in three-month steps and a low minimum monthly deposit aimed at small savers.
  • PNB Sugam Recurring DepositA flexible variant permitting partial withdrawal against the accumulated balance without closing the account, which a conventional RD does not allow.
  • PNB Dhan Vridhi and special deposit variantsPeriodically offered tenure-specific schemes carrying their own rate card. Availability changes, so confirm the scheme is open on PNB ONE or at the branch before planning around it.

Missed Instalments and Early Closure at PNB

PNB charges a default fee for each missed instalment, calculated per hundred rupees of the instalment per month of delay. An account left in default long enough is treated as discontinued and settled at maturity on the instalments actually paid. Premature closure is permitted after the minimum period and pays the rate applicable for the period served, less the penalty.

How to Check PNB RD Interest Rates

RD rates change with RBI policy and each bank's own treasury decisions, so no figure is quoted on this page. Take the rate applicable to your tenure from PNB ONE app, PNB Internet Banking, or branch, then enter it above alongside your monthly instalment to see the exact maturity value.

What Is Specific to a PNB RD

  • Sugam is the differentiator — partial withdrawal against an RD balance is uncommon and avoids breaking the deposit for a short cash need.
  • Instalments can be paid at any PNB branch, not only the one where the account was opened, which matters if you relocate.
  • The 2020 amalgamation of OBC and United Bank of India means former customers of either now transact on the PNB product range and rate card.
  • Senior citizens receive the additional rate benefit PNB applies across its deposit range, and a loan against the accumulated balance is available after a qualifying period.

Enter the rate PNB currently quotes for your chosen tenure into the calculator above to see the exact maturity value and the year-by-year interest accrual.

To compare this against another lender, or against a lump-sum deposit, use the master RD calculator or the fixed deposit calculator.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the Punjab National Bank RD Calculator.

Use the calculator above by entering your intended monthly instalment, your desired tenure, and the interest rate PNB offers for that duration. The tool applies quarterly compounding to each instalment separately, which is the method Punjab National Bank uses, and returns both the maturity amount and the total interest earned.

Sugam is Punjab National Bank's flexible recurring variant. Its distinguishing feature is that it permits partial withdrawal against the accumulated balance without closing the account outright — unusual for a recurring deposit, and useful when a short cash need would otherwise force you to break the whole deposit and lose the contracted rate.

Oriental Bank of Commerce and United Bank of India were amalgamated into Punjab National Bank with effect from 1 April 2020, making PNB the second-largest public sector bank by branch network. Deposits held with the merged entities were transferred on their existing contracted terms; new recurring deposits opened at those branches now follow the PNB product range and rate card.
