Why is our calculation more accurate than other calculators?
Most online calculators use a flat 3.67% formula for the employer's EPF share. However, EPFO rules strictly cap the employer's EPS (Pension) contribution at ₹1,250 per month. If your basic salary exceeds ₹15,000, the remaining balance of your employer's 12% contribution spills over into your compounding EPF account. Our calculator accurately tracks this spillover, giving you a true, legally accurate projection of your retirement wealth.

Understanding the 3.67% vs 8.33% Split
One of the biggest confusions for salaried professionals is the employer's contribution to EPF. On your payslip, you might see that your employer is contributing a matching 12%. However, your EPF balance doesn't grow by that full amount.
As per EPFO rules, the employer's 12% is divided into two parts:
- 3.67% is deposited into your EPF (Employee Provident Fund) account. This portion earns compounding interest.
- 8.33% is deposited into your EPS (Employee Pension Scheme) account. This portion does not earn interest and is used to provide you a monthly pension after age 58.
Because the EPS portion does not earn interest and is capped, our calculator accurately isolates the 3.67% employer share when calculating your final compounding EPF corpus.
Calculate your total Employee Provident Fund (EPF) corpus at retirement. Find out how your 12% and employer's 3.67% contribution grow over time.
EPF Calculator — Frequently Asked Questions
Understand how your Provident Fund grows and the exact breakdown of contributions.
Both the employee and the employer contribute 12% of the employee’s Basic Salary + Dearness Allowance (DA). However, the employee’s entire 12% goes directly to the EPF account, while the employer’s 12% is split: 3.67% goes to the EPF account and 8.33% goes to the Employee Pension Scheme (EPS).
While the standard EPF deduction is 12%, an employee can voluntarily choose to contribute more (up to 100% of their Basic Salary + DA). This additional contribution is called VPF and earns the exact same interest rate as standard EPF. Our calculator allows you to increase your Employee Contribution slider up to 100% to simulate VPF.
EPF interest is calculated on a monthly basis on the lowest balance between the 5th and the end of the month. However, the accumulated interest is credited to the EPF account only once a year, at the end of the financial year.
Yes, EPF falls under the "EEE" (Exempt-Exempt-Exempt) category. The contributions are tax-deductible under Section 80C (up to ₹1.5 Lakh), the interest earned is tax-free (for contributions up to ₹2.5 Lakh per year), and the maturity amount is entirely tax-free if withdrawn after 5 years of continuous service.
