State Bank of India Recurring Deposits Explained

Used as an SBI RD interest rates calculator, the tool above applies the quarterly compounding State Bank of India uses on each instalment, so the maturity figure matches the bank’s own working. State Bank of India runs the largest recurring deposit book in the country, and its RD sits inside the same account structure as its term deposits — the instalment is debited by standing instruction from your linked SBI savings account, so the deposit runs on its own once it is opened. Tenures span 12 months to 120 months in multiples of three.

SBI RD Schemes You Can Open

SBI groups its recurring products under a few distinct names, and the one you pick changes how the instalment behaves rather than how the interest is computed:

  • SBI Recurring Deposit (e-RD)The standard product, openable end-to-end through YONO or NetBanking without branch paperwork if you already hold an SBI savings account.
  • SBI Flexi Deposit SchemeLets you vary the amount you pay in each year within an annual floor and ceiling, rather than committing to one fixed monthly figure for the whole tenure.
  • SBI Holiday Savings AccountA tie-up RD aimed at funding a specific package holiday, where the maturity value is set against a planned trip cost.

Missed Instalments and Early Closure at SBI

A missed instalment attracts a small penalty charged per month of delay, and SBI closes an RD prematurely if instalments remain unpaid for six consecutive months, paying out the balance as a matured deposit. Premature closure at your own request is permitted and settles at the rate applicable for the period the money actually stayed, less the applicable penalty.

How to Check SBI RD Interest Rates

RD rates change with RBI policy and each bank's own treasury decisions, so no figure is quoted on this page. Take the rate applicable to your tenure from SBI YONO app, SBI Online portal, or any SBI branch, then enter it above alongside your monthly instalment to see the exact maturity value.

What Is Specific to an SBI RD

  • Instalments are collected by standing instruction from a linked SBI savings account, so a shortfall in that account is what usually causes a missed deposit.
  • Senior citizens receive the same rate benefit on RDs that SBI applies to its term deposits.
  • A loan or overdraft against the accumulated RD balance is available once the account has run long enough to build one.
  • Tenure moves in three-month steps, which matters because the quarterly compounding cycle lines up with those steps.

Enter the rate SBI currently quotes for your chosen tenure into the calculator above to see the exact maturity figure and the year-by-year build-up of interest.

To compare this against another lender, or against a lump-sum deposit, use the master RD calculator or the fixed deposit calculator.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about the State Bank of India RD Calculator.

You can check current rate slabs directly through the SBI YONO app, SBI NetBanking, or by visiting your nearest SBI branch before setting your deposit parameters.

Yes, existing SBI account holders can open an e-RD instantly via NetBanking or YONO without submitting physical branch paperwork.

No. SBI RD interest rates are fixed on the day the account is opened and apply to every instalment for the full tenure, including instalments you have not yet paid. A later revision of the rate card affects new deposits only, so a cut cannot reduce what your running account earns and a rise will not lift it either. Rates are set per tenure slab, which is why a 12-month and a 36-month deposit opened on the same day can carry visibly different rates.
